“OMG This isss ridciulsus. playing a drinking gamee where we drink a shot everytme we seeee an oily birdddd!!! LOL! so wasted!! #pbcares”
We are all laughing at the tweets BPglobalPR are broadcasting about BP. The oil company has become a complete joke… I didn’t catch the punch line though. There is nothing even remotely humorous about this oil leak catastrophe, but it does make a very illuminating case study of how quickly and completely people now have the ability to easily blacken your brand’s name, excuse the unfortunate pun…

We sit online most of every day. We read voraciously. And even then we are often humbled by the rate in which technology develops and the implications that has on social media, consumer engagement and creative capabilities. Seriously. Log on to www.slideshare.net and type in the words “social media”. Do that every Monday for a month. I promise you 4 mind blowing Mondays. It’s scary, it’s challenging, it’s daunting. Most of all it’s very very exciting. We get it. Our problem is that most of the people we try to share our passion with, don’t sit online all day. They don’t interact with social media on a daily level. Some don’t have Facebook accounts. Leave alone the fact that Facebook, with its “like” function proliferating the net, is now genuinely giving Google a run for it’s money in the “I’m the most powerful being in the universe race”. GOOGLE!!!!!! We get asked if we can Tweeter things on Facebook. We have been asked to post a brand’s event photos to Youtube. We have been asked to make a medical brand’s infomercial go “viral” like that Susan Boyle video. Really people? Do we really come across like the guy in the video below when we share our passion?

“You can do anything that you think that you can do. You just need to believe in yourself, formulate a plan of action, and follow through with it”. These were the wise words I started my day with this morning, shared by a young man in the hilarious video below. Hilarious, and apart from the obvious happy clappy feel good vibe of the title, there is another lesson that can be learned. So watch the video, and take a walk with me.

Who out there has learned CPR? I have, and I can tell you in wasn’t the most fun I have had. Sticking your mouth onto the plastic spit soaked lips of our safety manniquin “Steve”, feebly listening for a breath you knew wasn’t coming and then slamming the hell out of his fake rib-cage. God help anyone who has me as guardian angel. Not once in the entire course did I get so much as a cough from Steve. But it is important stuff, and seeing as though our new office now looks out onto Wavehouse in Gateway (see how I punted our new office there?) we may be faced with the situation of having to revive some poor battered rider. So these two fine instructors from Super Sexy CPR will be holding demonstrations at our office all of next week. I think I may take my time graduating this class.

Very simply “content” is every video, sound, story, or image that makes up the interactive experience a user has with your brand. Content strategy describes all the things you should have done to make sure the videos, sounds, stories and images that are out there about your brand, were useful, engaging, and relevant.
That’s what we do. We take your brand, sit it down around the campfire, and get it to tell stories.

Social media are media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media supports the human need for social interaction, using Internet- and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many). It supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers into content producers.
So what is Social Media REALLY about? (more…)

There’s a lot of content making predictions about 2010 and the trends that will dominate it. Some are legit, some aren’t. Some cite valid resources and I swear I think a few of these people are making up figures and terms as they go along. We spend regrettably large chunks of our time skimming through all of it and this is what we’ve come up with. It’s by no means the final word, but then again, in the game of predictions, such a thing doesn’t really exist does it?
