CocaCola + The Simpsons = Yellow Happiness

Friday, August 6th, 2010

I can’t believe I haven’t some across this sooner… my apologies!  I love The Simpsons almost as much as the CocaCola brand so it is hard to believe this slipped under the radar (mine anyway).  This has opened a whole heap of happiness all over my Friday afternoon.  But it does make my head spin trying to imagine the budget they had for this! Enjoy all.

How your Gig can help you

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

A very clever concept created by Axxess DSL internet service providers that has flipped-reversed the way we can view our relationship with the internet.  As you know, ISPs provide us internet access based on how many gigabytes we have been allotted, which are used up when we upload and download data via the world wide web (all hail uncapped!). However, Axxess have turned the gig in to a tangible thing that we can relate to, and that will have relevance to us and the way we use the internet. In short, they have made the gigabyte all fluffy and user friendly, have a look at their advert to see what I mean.

The World Cup… the real winner

Friday, June 25th, 2010

As the first round of matches are coming to a close, tension is mounting, and for some countries a chance in the knockout stage has already been swept away with the discarded hot dog papers and empty drink cans. Talking of drink cans, I can guarantee that those finished cans will have a Coca and a Cola on it.  This soft drinks company are everywhere and on everything this World Cup; when I am out and about in Durban I can turn 360 degrees and guarantee I will see the famous logo somewhere or in someone’s hand. As the group leaders edge that bit closer to the golden trophy, I can tell you whose winning so far… this brand.

Fried Day Fun… Vuvu-fever

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Since the kick off of the first match of the 2010 World Cup, 11th June at 16:00, South Africa has brought a wondrous sound to ear drums all around the World.  That’s right my aurally blessed friends… the vuvuzela. The beautiful monotone hum of thousands of vuvus that fills each stadium at every match brings atmosphere and a patriotic spirit to the event.  Singing fans are fantastic, but singing fans accompanied by unified blasts from excited supporters on  1 metre long multi-coloured plastic horns is magical! We’re waving our flags!

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Proudly wearing our yellow shirts, vuvuzelas at the ready, and flags swaying high above our heads. We are barely holding in our anticipation and excitement, we are ready for the 2010 World Cup. South Africa has warmly welcomed this young girl from England and I am proud to shout “Go bafana bafana!” Come on everyone WAVE YOUR FLAG!

Hey Soul Sister.. Thanks for the feel good.

A wonderful Lip Dub from the students at UVIC. Pure entertainment. And a rather effective showcase of their campus and faculties as well.

We’re moving. I hate moving.

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Not the concept of it. Exploring new territory is one of the great joys of life. It’s the packing, carrying, unpacking, and ceaseless arguments of optimal Feng Shui versus practicality that happen on the other end. So while our office paraphernalia hangs in limbo  (the back of my Fiat Palio Weekender) and we sit on the cold hard floor with nothing but a modem and a couple laptops while our new office gets cleared of debris, dust, paint and plaster, I thought I’d share (more…)

Budget or Brains

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

This weekend I am performing the Best Man’s duties at a friend’s wedding. Nerve wracking stuff, and I decided to turn to the Interweb for information on wedding etiquette, speech ideas and more. While searching I came across this gem, and it shot ice cold fear through my veins. (more…)

Will Permission Marketing Kill the Pop Icon?

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

We’re big fans of permission marketing. In a world cluttered with messages that take a shotgun approach and vie for ever shrinking slices of our attention by getting louder and more intrusive, the concept of only being advertised at by brands and products I have a genuine chance of being interested in seems like a paradise.

In this digital Eden my online behaviour creates a profile of me that through the alchemy of algorhythms only shows me stuff that matches my interests, psychographics, and who knows, maybe even my income level and mood. My very own ever present binary PA, shunning away those unwelcome salespeople. (more…)

Flight of the Fish EagleBuilding Brand Love is what Gorilla does. Because Love equates to Loyalty, and Loyalty is priceless… It’s impressive to see how on it some brands are, and how tragically short some brands fall. This weekend I was invited to a Fish Eagle Brandy party at a “secret location” in Westville. Over the past year I’ve been invited to several, but have been out of town almost every time, so this weekend was my first.

I’ve attended dozens of similar functions – from bank-loan expensive Scottish whiskeys, to everyone’s favourite sour mash – and generally these parties are all pretty similar. Free drinks, a slick, magnificent environment and the prerequisite beautiful people all trying to look cool until the free drinks kick in. Yes they’re fun, but they all (more…)
